BREEDER RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Only annual or Lifetime AMBA members in good standing may register or transfer registration of a Pedigreed AMBA Certified Pure Meishan pig. Only Annual or Lifetime AMBA Members in good standing may register a pig in their name and be listed as the owner breeder in the AMBA pedigree  data base. 
  2. AMBA members are required to notify the AMBA via LITTER REGISTRATION anytime they farrow a litter of piglets from 2 pedigreed A.M.B.A. Certified pigs. Herd book access is also located at www.meishanbreeders.com, Members Area. There is no charge to Register a Litter. This is done in our herd book as linked too above. 
  3. Once the decision has been made to retain any individual piglet for breeding or for sale as a breeder, the member can request a pedigree for each individual piglet via our CERTIFICATE of REGISTRATION REQUEST form online in the Members Area. The member can wait to register the piglet once the new owner determines it’s name. Keeping in mind that Late Fees will apply after 60 days, post pig delivery date. Certificate requests are made in our herd book, as linked too above. 
  4. The cost for each pedigree is currently at $10 for Lifetime and Certified Breeders and $20 for Associate members. Pedigrees should be requested prior to breeding any retained piglet.
  5. Barrows can be registered at the same fees as breeding stock.
  6. All Pigs that are to be registered must be ear tagged or ear notched or marked in a way that one pig can be identified from another easily BEFORE the transfer can be completed. Microchipping is not an ideal means of tagging a hog as very few people have the ability to read those tags, leaving the hog unidentifiable, therefore unregistrable.
  7. You must be a member of the AMBA to have a hog registered in their name. 
  8. Pigs can be dropped from the herd book if no tagging system or documentation supports pig identification or litter documentation at the discretion of the AMBA and the board of directors.
  9. The AMBA and it’s board may request evidence of your tagging system at any time.
  10. Herd names follow the sire or the farm where the breeding occurred. Although most breedings occur on the owner / members farm, sometimes there are exceptions.
    The 2 most common exceptions in defining the herd name of a pig are:
      a.) a sow is sold already bred
      b.) stud services
    In both of these cases the herd name will follow the owner of the boar who sired the litter regardless of where the sow farrows. Example: If Meishan Farm, LLC owned a sire and bred a sow with that sire, those piglets will carry the Meishan Farm name even if the litter is farrowed at another farm. Members shall document this on the Litter Registration.
  11. Request for Replacement Pedigrees is $25 per pedigree. Chain of Custody verification may be required prior to release of a lost pedigree. 
  12. At the time of sale, if the pig is already registered, the original Certificate of Registration [aka hard card] with the AMBA Seal and Registrars Signature transfers with the hog. As our certificates are printed on heavy card stock, the term ‘hard card’ refers to the original Certificate of Registration.
  13. The seller is to complete their portion on the bottom of the original pedigree under the “Authorization to Transfer Ownership” on the original Certificate of Registration which includes the seller’s signature, date and phone number. Make sure to include the date the transfer took place if it is different from the date of the seller’s signature. 
  14. Parents’ pedigrees are  available by a potential buyer upon request.
  15. If a piglet is being sold that is not registered, it’s the sellers responsibility to complete the Certificate of Registration request in a timely manner. It is the buyers responsibility to provide a name for the pig in a timely manner. Late fees apply once the 90 day window passes post delivery of pig/s. 
  16. Representing any Meishan Pig and delivering said pig, regardless of sire or dam, as ‘Registered with the AMBA” or “Registerable” without having a hard copy of the pedigree issued for said pig, or a LITTER REGISTRATION on file with the association is a violation of the rights and responsibilities of membership in the AMBA. A Litter Registration should also be provided by request to a potential buyer. In addition, it is a violation of the limited use of the trade and certification marks of the AMBA.
  17. There is no charge to register a litter. Once a litter registration form has been completed, a return email will be sent to the registering member. Retain that email for your records.
  18. No member shall register another member’s pigs.
  19. No pig can be registered without the consent of the originating member breeder. The AMBA can not override a breeder’s (member) choice to register a pig. 
  20. If a Litter Registration is NOT submitted within 1 year of the farrowing date, pigs shall be unregisterable. Any exceptions are solely at the discretion of the AMBA and the board.
  21. Deceased Hogs Forms are to be completed by the owner after hog passes in our herd book as linked to above.
  22. No pig names can be changed on a pedigree once released from the AMBA. An additional name, if the name line spaces allow, can be added in parenthesis to the name area.
  23. No pedigree can be reissued unless the original Certificate of Registration is submitted to the AMBA. Copies are not acceptable to transfer ownership.
  24. Lost pedigrees require a verification process to ensure chain of custody and accuracy and may take time to recreate. 
  25. No pigs can be added to the herd book without verification of chain of custody, pig ID and it is at the sole discretion of the AMBA and the board of directors. 
  26. No pig shall be registered until all fees are paid in full. Check your SPAM folder for invoices. 
  27. LOST EAR TAGS: Once an ear tag has been replaced, a member shall notify the AMBA via email at ambameishan@gmail.com of the updated tag. The tag info will be updated in the herd book. No Certificate of Registration will be reissued unless the member requests it to be reprint. In that case, the original certificate of registration must be surrendered/sent to the AMBA Registrar before an updated pedigree can be released. The standard certificate fees of $10 or $20 per certificate, according to membership level, apply. As of October 14, 2024, a legible photo of installed ear tag is required.
